Beyond Blue Roadshow

New data released by Roy Morgan shows that more than one in five Australians now report experiencing depression, anxiety or both in the past year, with this rate gradually increasing over the past 18 months.

Despite this rise, and a recent growth in treatment rates, latest data suggests more than half of people with a mental illness in Australia will still not seek treatment.

Over the next 16 months the Beyond Blue Roadshow will be visiting hundreds of communities in a big blue bus to tackle mental health conditions at a grass roots level across Australia as part of a massive roadshow.

This roadshow by Beyond Blue is an effort to encourage greater awareness and help-seeking for those that suffer any form of mental health issues whether they be big or small.

Starting out in Canberra in February the bus will cover more than 22,000 kilometres as it visits different towns in all 61 Australian Medicare local regions.

Minister for Health Peter Dutton said the Roadshow could help save lives as it drives from town to town promoting good mental health.

“There are on average over 2,300 suicides in Australia each year,” he said. “More people need to reach out for support when they need it and I’m confident that the Roadshow will help drive home the importance of this.”
