International Volunteer Day 2012

Held on December 5th, International Volunteer Day 2012 aims to heighten both individual and government awareness of voluntary contributions. It also gets people to actively engage in becoming a volunteer for a variety of causes.

Adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1985, International Volunteer Day has received contributions over the years by both individuals and organisations in the following ways.

  • Community volunteer projects.
  • Rallies, parades or marches.
  • Campaigns encouraging people to pledge certain hours to community volunteering.
  • Organisations launching volunteer programs
  • Volunteer competitions.
