Ride2Work Day October 16, 2020

In the 12 months ending on the June 1, 2021 the Australian Bureau of Statistics recorded that there were approximately 16.6 million registered cars in Australia. The estimation of kilometers travelled by all these cars put together was 232.453 million. The state with the most kilometres for this year was Queensland with almost 15,000 km’s per car on average.

Now if we calculate this car’s carbon footprint based on an average petrol car, this car’s CO2 emissions are 3.42 metric tons per year! It is proven that a majority of our km’s are built up on our daily commute to and from work, so if you have the opportunity to take a different mode of transport be it public transport or even better, your bike, it would make a great contribution to the environment in the long run.

National Ride 2 Work Day on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 is the perfect day to start your new commute to work. By ditching your car you are contributing to the environment and guaranteeing yourself a park. You can register your participation in National Ride 2 Work Day at www.bicyclenetwork.com.au the website to help inspire thousands of others to participate in National Ride 2 Work day.

Sarah Wilson the ambassador for Ride 2 Work day says riding is also a great way to get from A to B without the hassle of traffic and a great way to get in shape.
